CPL 2021: Schedule, Squads, Venue

The ninth edition of one of the most popular T20 tournaments, the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), will begin on Thursday. World-class cricketers from the Caribbean and around the globe will feature in another season of the CPL. All the matches in the three-week-long tournament will take place at Warner Park Stadium in St. Kitts.

Schedule

Trinbago Knight Riders, the defending champions, will meet Guyana Amazon Warriors, who reached the semi-finals last season, in the league opener on August 26. The six teams will play each other twice, and the top four sides will make it to the knockout stage. The semi-finals will be played on September 14, while the final is on September 15.

Squads

Chris Gayle returns to CPL after skipping the 2020 edition. The T20 legend will ply his trade with St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, who he guided to the final in CPL 2017. Veteran all-rounder Shoaib Malik, too, will be available for the new season. He has scored 1707 runs at an average of almost 40 in CPL.

Barbados Tridents and Saint Lucia Zouks changed their name to Barbados Royals and Saint Lucia Kings, respectively. The 2021 edition will see two changes at the helm as Nicholas Pooran will lead the Guyana Amazon Warriors, while Faf du Plessis, who didn’t play a single game in the Hundred tournament, is appointed the captain of Saint Lucia Kings.

Venue

Warner Park Stadium in St. Kitts will host the entire CPL 2021 season. The 8000-capacity stadium, which has hosted three Test matches and a couple of ODIs and T20Is, was St Kitts Nevis Patriots home ground ever since the franchise made their debut in the CPL. It also hosted both the qualifiers, eliminator, and final in the 2016 edition.
