Q & A

Fantasy tips and tricks: Should I pick more bowlers, batsmen or all-rounders?

In a contest between teams who are ranked at the top two spots in the points table for the Indian T20 Cricket League 2022 tournament, a conventional approach to create fantasy cricket playing XI would be the right way. Adding more to the batting strength and carrying fast bowlers who can dominate at the Wankhede Stadium pitch will be the right way of making your fantasy cricket playing XI. And given that these are two of the best teams so far in the tournament, a fantasy cricket player is bound to be spoilt for choices and options to pick from.

Fantasy tips: From which team should I pick more players in my XI? Which team is stronger?

Gujarat and Hyderabad are sitting at Nos 1 and 2 positions respectively having played better cricket than most of their opponents so far in the Indian T20 Cricket League 2022. While Gujarat have lost one game — that too against Hyderabad — along the way, Hyderabad bounced back from a couple of defeats at the start of the league round to win their next five matches consecutively, which helped them grab the second position in the points table with both the teams having played 7 matches each so far. There is certainly no clear favourite between Gujarat and Hyderabad and fantasy cricket players will have to be at their best in order to get their team combinations right.

MORE INFORMATION: Hyderabad are the only team in this Indian T20 Cricket League 2022 competition to have recorded five consecutive victories, which came after losing their first two matches that signalled that the team was still reeling from their problems that surfaced last year. On the other hand, Gujarat themselves are on a little winning spree, having recorded three on the trot so far after losing to Hyderabad earlier in the competition. Gujarat is the only team who have 12 points in their kitty after playing 7 matches whereas the Kane Williamson-led Hyderabad have the best net run rate of 0.691.

PLAYERS’ FORM: Shubman Gill’s bat has gone quiet after smacking 84 and 96 in the middle stages of the first half of the league round, which is of 70 matches this year. On the  other hand, Gujarat have been bolstered with the form of their captain Hardik Pandya, who has already hit three fifties in the tournament with his latest  outing of 67 proving a match-winning one against Mumbai. Among the other batsmen, Gujarat will hope that their Indian players such as Wriddhiman Saha, Abhinav Manohar, Yash Dayal and Rahul Tewatia continue to fire whereas Hyderabad will look up to their bowlers once again to fire after their sensational show against Bangalore a few nights ago.

Table-toppers Gujarat eye revenge against Hyderabad

Gujarat will have revenge on their mind when they take the field at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday night to lock horns with Hyderabad, who are a team on a juggernaut and will be looking to record their 6th consecutive win.

In their earlier meeting in this tournament, a revitalised Hyderabad side had crushed Gujarat by 8 wickets in a one-sided contest at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on April 11.

While Gujarat sit at the top spot in the points table for the Indian T20 Cricket League 2022, Hyderabad have recorded five consecutive victories — something that no team has been able to be so far — and are placed second with the best Net Run Rate (NRR) of 0.691 among all 10 competing sides.

Gujarat have played 7 matches and recorded victories in 6  while their solitary loss in the tournament has come against Hyderabad earlier in the tournament, something that will be on the mind of the Hardik Pandya-led team when they take the field at the Wankhede Stadium on Wednesday night.

Gujarat have done incredibly well with the resources that they have in their ranks, with captain Hardik Pandya leading from the front with the bat having hit three fifties already in the 15th edition of the T20 cricket competition.

On the other hand, his counterpart on Wednesday, Kane Williamson has been able to rally his troops around him for a greater cause of lifting Hyderabad out from the trenches, after they had lost 13 out of 16 matches starting from last season.

Hyderabad are looking formidable not just because of a few specific players but they have an all-round team with multiple characters standing up and delivering crucial performances when it mattered the most. After Umran Malik made news with his searing pace against Kolkata, the pair of Marco Jansen and T Natarajan ran through a long Bangalore batting line-up to bowl them out for a paltry 115 in the previous match, setting up a 9-wicket victory.

With the bat, Williamson has some really good talent at his disposal in the form of all-rounder Abhishek Sharma, middle-order batsmen Aiden Markram and Rahul Tripathi whereas the Caribbean Nicolas Pooran has been coming into his usual elements in the last few games.

While Hardik Pandya has been a force to reckon with in the Gujarat ranks, the new Indian T20 team would want their explosive opening batsman Shubman Gill to be back among runs once again, as he seems to have lost the form that he showed in two matches on the trot, hitting 84 and 96.

Among the bowlers, Rashid Khan and Lockie Ferguson are the key for Gujarat but a lot will also depend on the left-arm fast bowler Yash Dayal, after he bowled an impressive spell in the previous match against Kolkata.
