Q & A

Fantasy tips and tricks: Should I pick more bowlers, batsmen or all-rounders?

Two out of the three matches played here at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai have been high-scoring contests. In the previous match between Rajasthan and Mumbai on Saturday afternoon, the former were able to record a comprehensive 23-run win while scoring 193/8 batting first. The batsmen will continue to enjoy a true batting surface which has no surprise for them and fast bowlers will have to work hard for their share of success. Adding more to the batting strength while carrying wicket-taking options will be the right approach for this contest to be played on Monday night.

Fantasy tips: From which team should I pick more players in my XI? Which team is stronger?

Indeed, Lucknow are the stronger side compared to Hyderabad even though the latter has played only one match yet in the season. Hyderabad lost their opening game of the tournament to Rajasthan by a huge margin of 61 runs, failing to make any sort of impact both with the bat and a ball. Hyderabad are a side who have a lot to prove particularly with their batting while their bowling does not really instill fear in the minds of the opposition, as is the case with some other teams, having lost the services of Rashid Khan ahead of the mega auction held earlier this year. On the other hand, Lucknow have an impressive squad and should have more players featuring in the fantasy cricket playing XI for the contest No 12 of the Indian T20 Cricket League 2022 2022.

MORE INFORMATION: Hyderabad are going to have a lot to prove in all departments in order to be considered among the top teams once again after the makeover that they have gone through over the last one year. With the exit of some big names such as David Warner, Jonny Bairstow and Rashid Khan, the franchise is lacking on spunk and do not have any big format specialist in their ranks who can lead revival single-handedly. In the batting line-up, the likes of Nicolas Pooran, Kane Williamson, Aiden Markram, and Rahul Tripathi will have to shoulder the responsibility of getting the runs whereas in the bowling department, Hyderabad will depend on the likes of Washington Sundar, Umran Malik, T Natarajan and Mark Jansen to name a few. On the other hand, Lucknow will want to build on their momentum that they have discovered of late, particularly in the contest against Chennai.

PLAYERS’ FORM: Hyderabad bowlers have their task cut out on Monday night when they will face an in-form batting lineup of the new team Lucknow, which is coming off a run chase in excess of 200, against the defending champions Chennai. While it is true that dew factor has been heavily influential in some of the results in this tournament so far, the venue at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai will continue to favour batsmen. Lucknow have most of their batting clicking together in the first two matches, and Hyderabad would like more runs from their specialist batsmen as only Aiden Markram could make any impact in their first match against Rajasthan.

Hyderabad face uphill task against confident Lucknow

They won the title in the Indian T20 Cricket League 2022 just six years ago and since then, they have featured in the final four for the knockout round of the competition more often than not. Hyderabad have been one of the best teams in the circuit but their fortunes have turned around drastically for them, specially with the talent drain in the form of David Warner, Jonny Bairstow and Rashid Khan.

Even the absence of someone like the former West Indies captain Jason Holder from the Hyderabad ranks is felt because the team has left the team has lacked dependable batting options, with Kane Williamson shouldering most of the responsibility.

Hyderabad have been on a downward spiral for a while now which was evident from their poor show against Rajasthan with the bat, barring Aiden Markram who scored a half-century to push their total beyond 100 a contest wherein they were chasing more than 200 to win.

Hyderabad would expect more from the likes of Indian players that includes Abdul Samad, Abhishek Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T Natarajan, Umran Malik, Washington Sundar and among overseas players, Romario Shepherd, Nicolas Pooran and even Aiden Markram to provide them with stability in the middle.

In their opening match of the tournament, Hyderabad looked completely clueless as far as batting was concerned which sparked an animated response from the legion of fans as well as those who watched from a distance. It was indeed a painful sight to see them struggling in the first match of the season.

The Kiwi captain Kane Williamson will find himself under pressure once again on Monday night as Hyderabad are gearing up to take on Lucknow, a confident side which lost their first ever Indian T20 match to another new team Gujarat, but bounced back to Trump the defending champions and four-time title winners Chennai in their previous match.

If there is one department which Lucknow have to work on, it is their bowling since the coin toss is going to matter more on the venues in Mumbai where dew factor has been dominating the outcomes of the match — something that worked for their benefit against Chennai.
